Afrimac Nut Company: A WordPress and WooCommerce platform for a Kenyan macadamia exporter

Afrimac Nut Company Limited has been processing macadamia nuts and macadamia oil for export markets since 2011. Their state-of-the-art processing facility in Maragua, Murang’a County, supplies international buyers under FDA, FSSC 22000, BRC, Kosher, and Halal certification. The brief was to build a website that matched the credibility of the operation behind it: afrimac.co.ke, the company’s digital home and the storefront for their consumer-facing macadamia oil product, The Good Oil.

The Challenge

Afrimac is a serious export business serving international buyers, but their previous web presence under-represented the operation. The new site needed to do three jobs at once:

  • Establish institutional trust for B2B export buyers vetting suppliers from Kenya, with clean access to certifications, quality assurance details, and the company profile
  • Showcase the product range: macadamia nuts, macadamia oil, nutritional facts, and the science behind the quality programme
  • Operate as a working e-commerce store for The Good Oil, with M-Pesa and card payments via Pesapal so Kenyan retail buyers could purchase directly

WordPress with WooCommerce was the right platform for this scope: enough flexibility to design the brand pages properly, plus a battle-tested commerce engine that the client’s team could maintain themselves after handover.

Our Approach

The build ran across two phases (with a deliberate pause in between while the client finalised packaging materials and product photography). Here is what shipped:

  • Custom WordPress theme built around Afrimac’s green and cream brand palette, with a content structure that prioritises export-buyer concerns: certifications, quality assurance, and traceability
  • Product pages for the macadamia ranges: Macadamia Nuts and Macadamia Oil, plus the consumer-facing The Good Oil product line with its own dedicated page
  • WooCommerce shop with Pesapal integration for M-Pesa and card payments, so The Good Oil can be ordered directly online by Kenyan customers
  • Certifications hub displaying FDA, FSSC 22000, BRC, Kosher, Halal, and Environmental Policy documents as direct PDF downloads, removing friction for buyers verifying compliance
  • Nutritional facts and quality content explaining the company’s good agricultural practices programme and the farmer training network across Kenya’s macadamia-growing regions
  • Pre-launch migration playbook: full backup of the previous site (archived), full backup of the new build (archived), zero-downtime cutover to the production server
  • Server-side validation covering PHP configuration, database integrity, and log analysis before going live
  • Front-end QA across browsers and devices to confirm the site rendered cleanly for international buyers on whatever they happened to be using
  • Security hardening applied to the production environment as the final pre-launch step, including standard WordPress lockdowns and update routines for the client’s ongoing maintenance

The Result

The new Afrimac website went live on 13 February 2026 at afrimac.co.ke. The site presents the company’s certifications and product range with the polish their export buyers expect, and The Good Oil is now sold directly online via the integrated WooCommerce store with Pesapal handling Kenyan payments.

The handover included a fully archived backup of both the previous and new builds, plus security hardening on the production environment so the client team can take ownership of day-to-day content updates without risk to the live site.
